CLEVELAND INSTITUTE OF MUSIC
About the Artist
The Cleveland Institute of Music, one of the world’s leading internationalconservatories, boasts 36 members of the Cleveland Orchestra on its faculty and is situated within beautiful University Circle, the educational, cultural and medical hub of Cleveland. CIM possesses a world-class faculty and talented student body while retaining the personal atmosphere of a community music school. For more than 85 years, CIM has offered a world-class education to students from ages three to 93, and provided concerts for the community. The student body of CIM’s college division is broadly representative in its composition: 24% representing 24 countries and the remainder from virtually every state in the country. Eighty percent of the Institute’s alumni perform in major national and international orchestras and opera companies and hold prominent teaching positions around the world. CIM participates in a Joint Music Program with Case Western Reserve University, allowing CIM college students to take advantage of an outstanding liberal arts education. CIM’s close relationship with The Cleveland Orchestra is a long held tradition, thirty-eight CIM alumni currently holding positions with The Orchestra. CIM’s Preparatory and Continuing Education Division, with an enrollment of 1700, serves the community from its main building, as well as four suburban branch locations. An extensive outreach program presents our college and preparatory students at local schools, hospitals, retirement facilities and major
community events. Distance learning initiatives extend CIM’s reach far beyond the northeast Ohio region supporting K-12 programs and access to CIM’s exceptional college-level faculty.
Since its founding in 1920 with Ernest Bloch as President, CIM has been guided by three important principles—retain a world-class faculty, seek and nurture ambitious and talented students, and serve the supportive local community with which our students can interact and flourish.
