Handspring Puppet Company and Sogolon Puppet Troupe present
Tall Horse
By Khephra Burns
Choreographed by Koffi Kôkô
Directed by Marthinus Basson
Tall Horse follows the true story of an extraordinary giraffe, captured in Sudan and sent in 1827 as a gift to the king of France. Walking from Marseille to Paris, it caused a national sensation, inspiring everything from fashion trends to--some say--the design of the Eiffel Tower. South Africa's Handspring Puppet Company collaborates with the Sogolon Puppet Troupe of Mali, choreographer Koffi Kôkô of Benin, New York playwright Khephra Burns, and South African director Marthinus Basson to present this tale with a mix of magnificent puppets, live actors, captivating costumes, evocative music, video projection, and dance.
