About the Program
Karen Akers is a leading concert and cabaret singer who has performed at Carnegie Hall, the White House, and the Hollywood Bowl. The Los Angeles Herald-Examiner says of her sound: "It's a great voice, an instrument with the power of Streisand's, the dark passion of Piaf's, and the lean irony of Dietrich's, but a voice uniquely her own." She has starred on Broadway in Grand Hotel and Nine and on film in Heartburn and The Purple Rose of Cairo.
