About the Program
You cherish his glorious masterpieces--but do you really know the man behind the music? Discover the passion of Johannes Brahms when the National Symphony Orchestra presents its latest Composer Portrait, hailed by the Washington Post as a "powerful" and "perceptive" concert series that "leaves an audience wanting more." The NSO explores Brahms's life and legacy in a musical biography featuring excerpts from some of his greatest works--including the Violin Concerto, Tragic Overture, and Variations on a Theme by Haydn --interspersed with commentary by Music Director Leonard Slatkin and author Martin Goldsmith. The concerts conclude with the complete First Symphony, one of Brahms's finest creations.Composer Portrait: Brahms is sponsored by Centene Corporation with additional support from the National Endowment for the Arts. Program:
| BRAHMS - Symphony No. 1 in C minor, Op. 68 |
