About the Program
"Three strong voices, locked in sequence," (The New York Times), the piano/violin/cello trio Sequenza pays tribute to three centuries of masterworks, but also looks to the future through exciting new commissions. The name "Sequenza" literally means "following," from one ensemble to the next, and from one work to the next. The name reflects the trio's dedication to new music by making a natural connection to today's life and culture. Sequenza unites "great ensemble playing" (The Washington Post) and distinct musical personalities in a program that includes Haydn's Piano Trio in E major, Hob. XV 28,Martinu's Cinq Pièces Brèves, and the world premiere of contemporary composer Paul Chihara's
Ain't No Sunshine. The program finishes with Schubert's Trio in E-flat major, one of the greatest works in the chamber music repertoire. Program:
| HAYDN - Piano Trio in E Major, Hob. XV 28 | |
| MARTINU - Cinq Pièces Brèves | |
| CHIHARA - Ain't No Sunshine Trio | |
| SCHUBERT - String Trio in E-flat major, Op. 100 |
