About the Program

Artists:
One of the most captivating violinists of his generation, Grammy(r) nominee Robert McDuffie has built a career on artistic integrity in performances around the world. The New York Times praises him as "a sweet-toned soloist," while the San Francisco Chronicle calls him, simply, "a treasure." "One of the most impressive young pianists on the horizon" (The Washington Post), Christopher Taylor plays with "infectious zest and a real sense of music-drama" (The Boston Globe). In 1990, he was awarded first prize in the William Kapell International Competition. McDuffie and Taylor offer a breathtaking performance of sonatas that include one of Schumann's earlier chamber works and Beethoven's brooding Sonata in C minor. The program also features a minimalistic work by Arvo Pärt and Bela Bartók's First and Second Rhapsodies, based on Romanian and Hungarian melodies. Program:
