Part of the Kennedy Center "250 Years of Mozart" celebration

Hailed for its "consistently beguiling and technically impeccable" (The Los Angeles Times) artistry, the Orion String Quartet is one of the most admired chamber ensembles on the international music scene. The group is named after the Orion constellation as a metaphor for the unique personality the musicians bring to their collective pursuit of the highest musical ideals. "One of the supreme musicians of our time" (New York Magazine), Peter Serkin is one of the most thoughtful and individualistic pianists appearing before the public today. The New Yorker declares, "No other pianist has matched his ability to make great music shiver with life." For the first concert of the new Fortas season, these eminent musicians come together for a program that includes expressive and complex works for piano by Mozart and Lieberson, as well as a string quartet by Beethoven, for whose music the Orion has gained particular renown. Program:
LIEBERSON - Piano Quintet
MOZART - Piano Quartet in E-flat Major K 493
BEETHOVEN - String Quartet No. 15 in A minor, Op. 132 Program Notes
