About the Program
Bill T. Jones, Artistic DirectorThe singular style of Bill T. Jones is instantly recognizable: Provocative partnering and body juxtapositions. Arms and legs propelled with explosive energy. Soaring leaps and daring lifts. Recited texts integrated with raw physicality and abstract gesture. The multicultural company that emerged from a longtime collaboration between Bill T. Jones and his late partner Arnie Zane brings together movement, music, and the spoken word to articulate compelling perspectives on the major issues of our times.
Jones's kinetically charged works have explored the tension of American prejudices, the ravages of AIDS, and his own journeys of love, loss, and renewal. Nearly four years after its last full engagement at the Kennedy Center, his company will perform two electrifying Washington premiere programs.
On November 17, Jones's powerful solo dancing is spotlighted in As I Was Saying..., a new combination of solos, duets, and trios that pays tribute to Jones's mother, legendary 1950s performance and jazz artist Lord Buckley, and more.
On Friday and Saturday, November 18 and 19, don't miss Blind Date, Jones's new full-company multimedia work accompanied by original music and text that boldly questions the meaning of patriotism.
